Founder of Fusionex and a long serving voice for practical, accountable use of data in Malaysian business.
Career before Fusionex
Ivan Teh’s early career was spent in global technology companies. Digital News Asia reported that he spent time at Intel and Hewlett-Packard while in the US, building technical depth, and then joined Accenture in Malaysia, where he learnt to translate that depth into business solutions for clients.
It was there, he has said, that he noticed a gap between technology and the people who have to use it. Fusionex was his attempt to close it. The name signals the intention: fusing business with technology.
Leading the company
Teh founded Fusionex in 2005 and has led it as managing director, chief executive and group chief executive in different periods, according to the titles used in company announcements and press coverage. He set its direction early, building the core platform himself before hiring and later steering the business towards the wider big data market, a shift Malay Mail dated to 2011. When Microsoft named Fusionex its top Business Intelligence partner worldwide in 2012, he said the company’s visibility rose dramatically.
His public comments on technology tend to stress usability. Speaking about the IDC MarketScape rating, he said data management and analytics had become a necessity for any industry, and that the company’s visual approach let business analysts, IT staff, data scientists and executives find insights in their own data.
Recognition
In December 2014 he received the Technology Entrepreneur of the Year award at the EY Entrepreneur Of The Year Malaysia gala, presented in the presence of the Minister of International Trade and Industry. He dedicated the award to the Fusionex team. In 2019 Rotary’s Kuala Lumpur DiRaja club named him a Paul Harris Fellow, and in 2020 he joined IMU’s Board of Studies for its Bachelor’s in Digital Health.
